This is Jed my 1978 Volkswagon Deluxe Westfalia Campmobile. It has spent is entire life in the dry southwest of Texas and then New Mexico. An older gentelman just moved to Iowa from New Mexico and said he would sell him. People everywhere just seem to smile when he passes by. There is honestly nothing wrong with it and I hate to sell him but I have too many toys and would like to go to work on my camaro.
The rust free condition of the body is what sold me on him. There are no rust issues, which could really be a problem on a bus like this. The only filler I found was about a 6 in spot behind the left wheel , and that was caused I suspect by a leaky secondary battery and not by weather. It is no big deal. Behind both rear wheels had some surface rust and was given preventative rust treatment and primered and painted. The top coat doesn’t match perfectly there but is hard to notice . No rust in the floorboards either.
The vinyl flower decals are easily removed, (I have pictures of some I pealed off, and have many more spare decals.) It has the original Dakota Beige paint still shines but has some rock chips and a couple very minor dents and dings. It has had a professional striping job that really adds to the van. The undercarriage is extremely, solid and only minor surface rust, just as you would expect from a southwest vehicle.
It has a Fisher cd player and 2 Blaupunkt door and 2 huge rear Blaupunkt removeable speakers. They store nicely in one of the several storage compartments. They are hooded up to a huge amp hidden behind the front seat. You could also hook up a subwoofer if that is your thing. The 4 speakers and toggle switches that control them in the roof above the driver area , have some expert workmanship to mount them. All the wiring looks really well done too. They left some extra switches open there too, to control additional things you might want to dream up. The system sounds awesome.
Jed has had very good care . It is extra clean. The pop up top has a few tears that have been well mended . The top material is clean and not moldly. It has a new zip out screen in the front. The material looks like it has a lot of life left . There are no leaks in the bus, I have been in it in rains and was impressed with the German craftsmanship. The rubber seals are all in good condition
The interior is very good. All the original plaid material has no big tears or burn holes and not faded out. Has all the original curtains including the full length front privacy curtain. The laminate in the kitchen area is still very good with only a few small chips on the bottom of the kitchen doors. The original carpet around the kitchen is very good . The front carpet has been replaced, with vintage shag carpet. I have since installed some front carpet that matches the original rear. The dash is very good no cracks or splits . Has the gage package that all work included the head temp gage. Has rear defrost. All the glass is very good with no cracks. The front passenger seat swivels around to the back. The fridge is not working but the light comes on when hooked to to city power. It has all the original wiring to the secondary battery that controls the fridge in motion, in good shape. I always just put a bag of ice in it and it lasts really well and has a little drain hole to the outside on the bottom. The switch on the sink works but it needs a new pump, and is available on the internet for 35 dollars. The stove starts right up and would probably heat the whole van. All the piping is intact underneath and in good shape for the heater except you would need a short piece of flexible tubing from the fan on the engine to the duct work. I don’t think Jed saw much cold weather. All the locks work with one key.
The engine has 94 k original miles and runs very well. This is the sought after, most powerful 2000cc engine available in the campmobile. It has plenty of power, and gets up to 25 mpg. It doesn’t smoke or leak motor oil. It has duel weber carbs that have been overhauled recently , I would prefer the carbs to the fuel injected engine for trouble free driving. It has the special tough 6 rib 4 speed trans made for the campmobile also. The clutch has no slippage. It shifts and drives out excellent. The van as a whole drives nice and tight and is easy and super fun to drive. Has front shoulder harness and four seat belts. The tires are newer with about 80% tire life left.
Jed has original snap on rear mosquito net and front storage box. Also many spare parts, including new spare rear axel with new cv joints attached. New spare heater blower motor, spare alternator, new flywheel, coil. It has a nice spare tire that fits in the kitchen storage compartment for it.
Jed is equipped and wired with a rear step bumper and tow package that I used to pull a small trailer once with firewood, generator, and extra camping gear. It pulled it easily. Also included is a bicycle rack that mounts to the front nerf bar. The nerf bar is mounted solidly to the frame , looks good and might be very nice to have in a front end collision.
There is also a small window air conditioner included it has been modified to fit in one of the front windows. I tried it once and in 20 minutes brought the temp down in the rear of the van from 85 to 77.
I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. I might be able to deliver it for a fee of gas plus return travel reimbursement. This is a good dependable solid westy campmobile, the reserve is not out of line and will be a good investment down the road . Buyer must pay 10% down in 7 days. If not delighted with the shape or description of the van you can have the down payment back, just pay the listing fee. Thanks Pat

I have added the duct work and Jed's heater blows hot air. All the heater duct work is in very good condition. It has definetly not been around here in the winter the salt would have ate it up.
