Up for bid is a 1986 VW Golf Diesel. Mechanically the car is in good condition. The little four cylinder diesel motor will run all day with no problems. It has a die hard 5 speed transmission that shifts smooth, and the clutch is good also. The tires have about 15,000 miles on them so they are about 50% tread. The interior is in good shape with a few minor stains here and there. The car has some rust under the driver side rear door and a little starting on the hatchback. Also I took the car to San Antonio TX last Christmas for vacation and locked the hatchback and ever since I could not get it unlocked. I think that someone will have to crawl from the inside of the car to open it to get it unlocked but I never tried it. I replaced the stock cooling fan with an aftermarket cooling fan and ever sense I did that the A/C stopped working. The original fan mechanically worked great, but it would only come on when you had the A/C on. And I wanted a fan the would cycle on and off wether I was running the A/C or not. I will include the original cooling fan with the car if someone would want to go back to it. I have taken this car in many long trips. I live in Kanas and have been from Wisconsin to Texas in this car. The car has no trouble going interstate speeds and will get about 40 MPG. I would feel comfortable driving this car from coast to coast. I now work 6 miles from home so I no longer need this car to commute, this is the reason for selling it. This car is 22 years old and has 215000 miles, so there is no warrenty stated or implied. I have discribed it as accurate as I could. I will accept cash, cashiers check, money order, personal check. Personal check must clear before car will be released. I want payment within 7 days unless prior arrangments are made. I will be flexible on pickup. I may be able to deliver the car for an additional fee on a case by case basis. Feel free to call or e-mail with questions. If I don't answer just leave me a message and I will return your call. 620-330-3936 ask for Jason
On Sep-04-08 at 21:59:22 PDT, seller added the following information:
The previous owner changed the timing belt when the car had around 170,000-175,000 miles, so about 40,000-45,000 miles ago. I forgot to mention that the previous owner also put a new injector pump, glow plugs and glow plug relay on it at the same time as a timing belt. And at around 208,000 miles I put a new head gasket on it and check the timing belt and it looked fine. When the car had about 207,000 miles I put new struts on it as well.
