Vehicle Description
This GTI is in very good condition, mechanically and cosmetically. Since I bought it new in 2001, it has been driven for only 56,000 miles, most of them on the highway. It gets 20/28 MPG.
This car is a pleasure to drive in all weather conditions. The steering is quick and precise, braking is excellent, and, with 180 horsepower, acceleration is potent. In the winter, with snow tires and traction control, it is stable and reassuring. It's also very comfortable to drive in, with supportive seats and a compliant ride.
The list of standard features on the GLX model is quite long. In addition to the items mentioned above, it includes a high-performance Monsoon audio system; heated seats, mirrors and washer nozzles; fog/driving lights; side airbags; two-way power moonroof with one-touch control; rain-sensing windshield wipers; real wood trim.
This car has been very well treated throughout its life, although it has lived that life in the greater Boston area. You will see in the pictures that the rear bumper has some scratches. There is a ding in the driver's side door. Aside from that, the worst cosmetic damage are a couple of small scratches on the hood. It still has the original windshield, which is getting a little pitted.
This car has never been smoked in, and rarely eaten in, so it's quite clean on the interior. The leather is just getting broken in, and the only flaws are some indentations in the back seats which are caused by leaving them down for long periods while hauling skis during the winter.
The car has never been in a serious accident. The rear bumper was replaced just after I bought it due to a (literal) fender-bender, but that's about it. The car has no significant mechanical problems. In fact, the only problems I can think of are: the power mirror on the passenger side moves left-right but not up-down, and the glove compartment door's spring doesn't work, so the door doesn't glide open as smoothly as it used to.
I am selling this car with two sets of wheels. I use the original 16" aluminum wheels in winter, and they have snow tires mounted on them. The wheels seen in the photographs are 17" Mille Miglia rims with low-profile Fuzion tires, which are responsive and grippy for non-snow conditions. This car is mostly stock. Other than the wheels, the only additions I've made are mudflaps (surprisingly useful to keep the back window clear) and heavy-duty floor mats.
