Vehicle Description
Up for sale is a running, driving 1983 RabbitL with a 5 speed tranny and a 1.7L Fuel injected 4 cycl that's great on gas and fun to drive. Great first car, especially since everyone will smirk at you in your stylish 1980's pomp and flaire and your 30ish mpg!
THE GOOD:
Great gas mileage, fun to drive, FANTASTIC IN THE SNOW. I drove it for a winter and it TORE THROUGH the snow with no issues.
New exhaust. C. converter is conspicuously missing. I don't know anything except that it goes from the manifold flange to flex pipe to the regular used exhaust. Sounds quiet and runs good.
New cheap radio in it with a small amp and 6x9's in the back, new speakers front too. Sounds WAY better than the stock setup, but could use a nicer deck. Theres plenty of loose wire in the trunk so you can still fold the seats and trunk deck up to the front to get all that room. (Seriously, this thing can make room to haul things.)
New springs, shocks, brakes, tires, hubcaps, strut bearings, battery, temp sender, and front end bushings (sway bar and A-Frame!) and ball joints! Suspension is set to go! One of the rear spring seats had to be welded rigged up since new isn't avail and it was rusting. It has vented rotors on the front now but they're too thick so i have brand new unused standard rotors for it.
I also have a wiper arm assembly since the drivers side arm mount broke off. Included is some OEM fabric so you can recover parts of the front seat that are torn, or just use the seat covers, see pic of fabric, it's real heavy.
Except for a little fading and the floor carpet, the interior is very good. I made custom door panels to match the seats that need installed and the red line trip cleaned up.
New headlight wiring and relays, old was messed up. The temp sender wasn't kicking on the fan soon enough (like 10 degrees too late) so i have a new one so it isn't installed yet, and wired a lighted switch near the 3 gauge cluster. Either the switch or the temp sender can kick the fan on independently.
The dash lights and gauge lights are blue LED's that are brightness adjustable with the factory light switch. I broke the oil temp gauge, i admit it. Included is a new one that can be put in.
Has a new left front fender that makes the whole body pretty solid except for minor rust (see below) that could be patched.
New cap, wires, plugs.
It's fuel injected! Great gas mileage.
The bad:
Has rust on the bottom corners, can be glassed and bondoed. Other than that it could use a paint job and would look great. I recommend blue or black or silver/blue combo.
Where i attached the led lights on the dash cluster is loose and causes the dash to lose power. It needs taken out, connected solidly, and everything will work great. As it is now, the dash loses power intermitently, making the gauges not work. They just need power and they'll work awesome, and if you pull the cluster out, right on top is that connection. have fun with that speedo cable connection.
Needs a windshield.
Has 185K on it, but runs super strong, Title says 200K and non actual miles. It could use a valve cover gasket, and nothing is too pretty, but it starts and runs great. Battery is low now from sitting for like 8 months.
It's an ugly color green.
THIS IS AN OLD CAR THAT HAS SOME MILES, I DON'T RECALL ANYTHING ELSE, BUT IT RUNS AND GOES GREAT, AND I'D LOVE TO DRIVE IT IF IT WAS DONE BUT I DON'T WANT TO FINISH IT. NO WARRANTY, COME PICK IT UP, DON'T DRIVE IT HOME BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE PLATES FOR IT. IF YOU WANT AN ADVENTURE, WE'LL JUMP IT, YOU CAN TAKE OFF WITH NO PLATES, AND I'LL REPORT IT STOLEN ABOUT 10 MINUTES LATER FOR GOOD LAUGHS. But seriously, i'd be more comfortable if you picked it up. For the right price (read: lots of $$) I can deliver. You have to check BEFORE you bid and i'll quite a price if i'm willing to do it to where you live.
WHAT WOULD BE GREAT:
Fix the small things above, bondo those corners, paint it and put a windshield in. Put in a better radio, finish the interior, and paint. You'd have a nice, fuel effecient winter car that's cool to drive. I'm 6'6" and i STILL love driving this thing. I just don't like people pointing and laughing at me :(
