Description:
This car was purchased in 2002 from a dealer. Since then I have used the car to commute to work (mostly highway driving). This car has been getting 26-28 miles to the gallon on the highway. I will now try to describe the car as best as I can to you.
Exterior:
Over the course of the past 6 years, I have kept the car clean and waxed. As a result, there is essentially no body rust over the entire body of the car and the black paint is still almost perfect. The paint has small dings and scratches, but does not have as many as one might expect for a 17 year old car. The only dent is on the lower portion of the driver’s side door. Other than this, the paint still shines and the body is straight.
Aside from minor fading, the black trim of the car is also in good shape. The chrome on the trim and grill are in fair to good shape. There is a portion of the rear driver’s side quarter panel trim that has broken off, but the clips are all intact so all this would require would be a new trim piece. The headlights are a little foggy but are intact and not cracked. The drivers and passengers side front turn signal lenses recently cracked due to age. I replaced the passenger’s side one with a brand new lens. The driver’s side will need a new lens. The rear lenses are in good shape. The driver’s side lens has a small crack, but overall the two sets of lenses are intact.
Interior:
The tan cloth interior is in very good shape. There is a little bit of fading which is most noticeable on the top portion of the rear seats. Other than this, the fading is not overly noticeable. There are no tears in the cloth seats. All of the factory rugs are intact and included. I have used mats on top of the factory Volvo rugs to preserve them. The dash is in good condition as well. There are a few cracks in the dashboard which is typical for this type of vinyl dash. I have used a Volvo fabric dash cover to protect the dash from further cracking. If desired, I will include this cover.
When I purchased the car, the factory radio had been removed and replaced with another tape deck. I then installed an unused factory Volvo tape deck (CR-712) that I found in my collection of Volvo parts. The radio is now installed in the lower dash storage compartment to make way for a 3 gauge cluster. This cluster is not included in the auction, but the car is wired for the oil pressure gauge and has the factory 5-bar pressure sender installed.
Mechanical:
Mechanically, the car is overall in sound shape. Oil and filter have been changed every 3000-4000 miles. Volvo brake pads have been installed regularly. Brake lines have been checked and brake fluid flushed and replaced when necessary. As a result, the car brakes function well and brake evenly. Engine coolant has been replaced/flushed when needed. Overall, the engine runs well and has not given me any issues over the years. The alternator and belts were replaced, using Volvo parts, within the last month. The battery holds a charge. The starter is still good condition and starts the car without any problem. I have all service records for the car from when I bought it in 2002. I can provide all service records from when I purchased the car to Buyer for viewing if requested. The only issues mechanically are a small oil leak that has surfaced within the last few weeks and the A/C does not work.
Issues:
These are the few items I would like to list that exist with the car. Other than these items, the car is in great condition both cosmetically and mechanically:
Cosmetic:
-Driver’s side front turn signal lens is broken
-Rear driver’s side trim is partially broken
-Dent in driver’s door
-Cracks in dashboard
Mechanical:
-Oil leak. I noticed the car was leaking a small amount of oil within the past few weeks. It appears the oil is coming from the valve cover gasket on the rear of the valve cover. I had this same issue near the front of the valve cover a few years ago. At that time, I tightened the valve cover nuts a slight amount and the oil leak stopped. I purchased a Volvo valve cover gasket, but have not had time to replace the old gasket. I will include this gasket as part of the auction if desired.
-A/C does not work. Might just need a charging.
Overall, the car is in good condition. Aside from the above mentioned issues, the car drives well, the engine runs well, and its exterior and interior are in good condition. Despite its high mileage, it is a good and clean example of a Volvo 240. I have tried to describe this car to the best of my ability. If you have any questions, please contact me. Car is being sold AS-IS. As no warranty is offered on this car, I have disclosed any issue that is apparent to me at this time.
