Vehicle Description
Thanks for clicking on our auction. We recently adopted two Bullmastiffs and bought a bigger Volvo (V70 wagon) to take them for rides in. So here's the auction for our 2001 Volvo S80 T6 Executive 4 door sedan.
It has the 2.8L in-line six cylinder with twin turbochargers, and it is rated at 268 HP. EPA estimates MPG at 19 city/ 26 highway. The transmission is the overdrive automatic that you can shift manually if so desired. It has 129,000 miles on it. We bought it with about 73,000 miles on it. Initially, the S80s had some powertrain management issues, but by the 2001 model year they had all been sorted out save one. The throttle plate is actuated by an electric motor controlled by an electronic module. There have been many failures of this specific part on S80s, so that Volvo extended the warranty on it to 200,000 miles. This car has performed flawlessly except for this item. We took it to our local Volvo dealer who completed step one in Volvo's required procedure to address this problem. They installed new software. After driving a few more months, it started to act up again (unstable idle, surging at cruising speed), so we took it back to Volvo. They cleaned the throttle plate for step two. It's been running fine since. When or if it acts up again, Volvo will replace the entire throttle plate, motor, module assembly at no charge. Anyone can take it in to any Volvo dealer to have this done- once it fails again. In the meantime, my wife has been driving it back and forth to work (part city, part highway driving) and getting 25.6 MPG.

at around 100,000 miles:
the timing belt, water pump (genuine Volvo parts) and coolant was changed
spark plugs and fuel & air filters were replaced
transmission fluid was replaced by transfusion method
no rust, just a few dings and scratches, glass and lenses OK
everything works
it has not been in any accidents while we've owned it
a police report might show up in Carfax because the owner of the car my wife bumped her door into insisted on reporting it
