Vehicle Description
The Jeepster was introduced in 1948. Industrial Designer Brooks Stevens was commissioned to do the overall styling, which incorporated a sporty look. The result was a 1948 two door phaeton convertible weighing 2500 pounds. It had a 4 cylinder, 63 horse-power engine. The Jeepster sold normally equipped for about $1,600. (A new grille could be purchased for $15). The Willys-Overland JEEPSTER was manufactured in Toledo, OH from 1948-1951.
This is my 1950 Jeepster purchased from a small town mayor in central Illinois many years ago. I was very lucky as this Jeepster retained almost all of its original parts. Since buying my Jeepster I have concentrated on restoring it mechanically first and then aesthetically. My thinking is the car is no good if it doesn't drive reliabally. To this end I have been very sucessful as I can drive this car anywhere, everyday.
I would rate this Jeepster as an 8.5 on a scale of 10. I have not painted the Jeepster but did buff it out and wax it last year. The paint is very presentable with some chips and scratches to be expected. I purchased original wheels, painted them and installed new Coker Classic whitewalls and beauty rings that really set the appearance of this car off. The front seats and rear bench are excellent. The rear seatback is original and could use recovering. I have a new rubber floor mat from The Jeepsterman that I have not installed yet. The top is black and in great condition. The 4 side curtains are included and also in great condition.
The overdrive and emergency brake are in working condition. Steering and brakes are excellent. The speedometer, gas, oil, volt, gauges are fine. Cluch and 3 speed shift on the column is excellent. The original 4 cylinder F Head motor and orignial 6 volt system is fine. No fluid leaks. Fan shroud keeps the motor running cool for parades and hot days. I have a new wiper motor and turnsignal units not installed. I rustproofed the underside last year.
I want my Jeepster to have a good home. No zero feedback or excessive negative feedback bidders please. I have this Jeepster for sale locally and reserve the right to end this auction early if I find a worthy buyer around here.
Please ask any questions and I will try to get back to you as soon as possible.
